The Delta State Police Command has arrested several suspects following an attack on police officers at the boundary between Akukwu-Igbo and Ugbolu communities in Oshimili North Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, on Monday.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police immediately ordered the deployment of operatives to the affected area after the attack, with a mandate to restore order and reassure residents.
“Following the prompt deployment of police operatives, a sting operation was carried out, leading to the arrest of some suspects connected to the incident,” the statement said. “The suspects are currently in custody and have provided useful information that is aiding ongoing investigations.”
CP Adesola condemned the assault on the officers, describing it as unprovoked and unacceptable.
“Attacks on police officers will not be tolerated under my leadership,” the Commissioner warned. “No extremist, secessionist, or violent group will be allowed to operate in Delta State. The command will deal decisively with any individual or group that threatens public peace or attacks law enforcement officers.”
The police boss reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safety, the rule of law, and the protection of lives and property across the state.
Residents were urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest of other suspects still at large. The police provided the Control Room contact number 0803 668 4974 for actionable intelligence and encouraged the use of other appropriate channels.
The Delta State Police Command reiterated its resolve to maintain peace and ensure that perpetrators of violence are brought to justice.
