The Delta State Police Command has announced a breakthrough in its ongoing fight against cultism and violent crime, with the arrest of thirteen suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity, also known as Black Axe, during a tactical operation in Ekraka Community Forest, Kokori, Ethiope East Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, the operation was carried out on December 20, 2025, following credible intelligence that the cult group was planning an initiation ceremony within the forest.
The Commander of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), SP Collins Achem, led a team of operatives to the location at about 11:00 p.m. Upon sighting the patrol team, the suspects reportedly engaged the police in a gun duel. The operatives responded with tactical superiority, arresting thirteen suspects while several others fled deeper into the forest.
A search of the area led to the recovery of two automatic pump-action guns, one double-barrel cut-to-size gun, one single-barrel cut-to-size gun, a battle axe, aprons bearing “NBM” insignia, razor blades cut into pieces, several mobile phones, charms, and suspected hard drugs. In addition, seven vehicles believed to belong to the cult group were seized and towed to the QRS Base in Warri.
SP Edafe emphasised that the suspects are currently in custody, with investigations underway to determine their individual roles, dismantle the network, and apprehend other fleeing members.
He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for cultism and violent crime, urging parents, schools, community leaders, and youths to join hands in the fight against cultism through guidance, positive role modelling, and timely reporting.
Residents were also encouraged to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with credible information to ensure the safety of Delta State.
