Delta Police Displays Might, Embarks on ‘Operation Clear Criminal Hideouts’

-

The Delta State Police Command has stepped up its operational activities with a coordinated show of force and clearance exercise targeting suspected criminal hideouts in Asaba and surrounding areas.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed that the move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen crime prevention strategies and make the state “uninhabitable for criminal elements.”

According to him, the operation followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi.

It involved a combined team of operatives drawn from multiple tactical units, including the Department of Operations (DOPS), Buffalo Squad, Crack Squad, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, and Operation Delta Shield.

He said the teams, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, carried out aggressive patrols and clearance operations on April 8, 2026, focusing on the Okpanam bush axis and adjoining areas within the Asaba metropolis.

“The operation involved combing suspected criminal hideouts, including shanties and makeshift camps believed to serve as safe havens for criminal elements, including suspected IPOB/ESN actors,” Bright stated.

He added that the exercise also featured confidence-building patrols aimed at reassuring law-abiding residents, farmers, and business owners of their safety, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

The police spokesperson noted that the Commissioner of Police has assured residents that the initiative forms part of broader proactive measures to deter crime and maintain public order across the state.

Bright urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information.

He further disclosed that the clearance operation would be sustained and expanded to other identified locations across the state as part of the Command’s ongoing security mandate.
