-

On the 5th of February, 2024 at about 8:am, while men of Dragon Patrol were conducting ‘stop and search’ along Kwale – Ogwashi-Uku Expressway, they intercepted a commercial Sienna Bus conveying passengers from Ughelli to Asaba.

The team subjected the passengers to a random search, during which one locally fabricated Pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from 23-year-old Fidelis Akpos, a resident of Ewhu Community Ughelli South Local Government Area.

The suspect concealed the gun and cartridges inside a polythene bag containing smoked fish to serve as a decoy, but the professionally trained Policemen uncovered the exhibit despite his antics.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, assured citizens of the state of a peaceful, safe and secure Delta State.

He further warned that all forms of criminality, lawlessness, or behaviour that contravenes the laws of the land will be dealt with accordingly.

The suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

In another development, on the 7th of February 2024, at about 11:am, operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) while conducting a ‘stop and search’ at Head-Bridge Asaba, flagged down a Toyota Hiace bus for a routine check.

The Delta State Police spokesman, Bright Edafe said that during the search, three cartons containing 100 bottles of CSC Codeine and 400 sachets of 250mg of Tramadol, and some other suspected hard drugs were recovered from the trio of Lucky Emmanuel, 40 and Enunwuune Snu, 46, and Jacob Efedeye, 32.

He also said that the suspects were in custody and the investigation was ongoing.

CP Abaniwonda while expressing his sincere appreciation to the officers for carrying out their duties diligently and outsmarting these suspects, reiterated that under his watch, the command will do all it takes within the ambits of the law to ensure that a safer environment for all Deltans, residents and non-residents is achieved.

He further urged the law-abiding public to always report any criminal activities to the nearest police station or call the Command Control Room: (08036684974; 08125958005; 09053872287). Alternatively, anonymous tip-off can be relayed via the PPRO Office: (09155570007; 09155570008) with confidence that the command will act swiftly.
