The Depot Nigerian Army (DNA), Zaria, held a Jumm’at prayer session on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Central Mosque, Chindit Cantonment, as part of activities marking the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) 2026.
AFCRD is commemorated annually on January 15 to honour the achievements of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and remember officers and soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice in the defence of the nation.
Speaking after the prayers, the Special Guest of Honour and Chief of Administration (Army), Major General I.M. Abdullahi, described the day as significant for both the Armed Forces and the country at large. He said the occasion provides an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of the AFN while remembering fallen heroes who laid down their lives in defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and in support of global peace and unity.
Major General Abdullahi explained that the Jumm’at prayer was organised to seek eternal rest for the souls of the fallen heroes, while also praying for continued protection and victory for serving personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Depot NA Zaria, Major U.S. Muhammed, spoke on the theme “The Reward of Taking Care of Orphans and Widows in Islam.” He emphasised the need for the nation to support the families left behind by fallen soldiers, noting that caring for orphans and widows is a noble act with great rewards in Islam. He added that while prayers are offered for Allah (SWT) to grant the fallen heroes Aljannah Firdaus, meaningful care and support for their families remain essential.
The prayer session was attended by the Commandant of Depot NA Zaria, Major General A.B. Mohammed; principal staff officers of the institution; members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives’ Association (NAOWA), Zaria Chapter; ex-servicemen; and Muslim faithful of Chindit Cantonment.
