EDOCSO Participates In Public Awareness Programme On Tanker Fire Safety

-

The Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO) actively participated in a one-day public awareness programme on tanker fire and related hazards.

The programme, held on Wednesday, June 18, 2024, at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Safety Academy, was organised by the Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The programme aimed to strengthen initiatives to address the increasing incidents of tanker-related fire outbreaks in the South-South region. The focus was on strengthening public safety, community preparedness, and regulatory compliance along major fuel transport routes. EDOCSO, as a critical stakeholder, played a central role in shaping safety policies and coordinating inter-agency responses to emergencies.

The programme brought together stakeholders from various organisations, including:

– Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA)

– National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)

– Edo State Traffic Management Authority (EDSTMA)

– Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)

– Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)

– Nigerian Red Cross Society

– Federal fire service

– Edo state fire service

– Ministry of Public Safety

– Representatives from local government areas

EDOCSO shares the safety objectives of the programme and is committed to fostering multi-sectoral collaborations and advocacy. The organisation believes that safety is a collective responsibility and encourages everyone to think safety first.

The programme was a significant step towards strengthening public safety initiatives in Edo State. EDOCSO looks forward to continued collaboration with stakeholders to promote safety and prevent emergencies.
