The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Wednesday.
The high-profile meeting, hosted by the Comptroller of Immigration Services, CIS Christopher Olu Onajirin, focused heavily on strengthening inter-agency cooperation, intelligence sharing, and border security.
During the visit, AIG Akpanudom emphasised that sustained collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the NIS is critical to dismantling emerging security threats, particularly human trafficking and syndicates operating across Nigeria’s borders.
“Continuous intelligence sharing and professionalism among agencies remain critical toward achieving a crime-free society and ensuring national security,” Akpanudom stated, praising the long-standing cordial relationship between the FCID and Immigration.
Responding to the delegation, CIS Christopher Olu Onajirin described the Nigeria Police Force as the foundational pillar of the nation’s internal security architecture. He acknowledged the vital support the police have provided to the NIS in achieving its operational milestones.
According to Onajirin, the Lagos State Command has recently recorded significant successes in combating human trafficking and breaking up criminal networks—achievements he credited in part to joint efforts with the police.
Beyond security discussions, Comptroller Onajirin shared a major operational update regarding the modernisation of immigration services. He disclosed that the NIS is actively working to make visa processing more seamless through digital platforms, noting that certain visa categories can now be obtained online within 24 hours.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of official plaques and a group photograph, symbolising a renewed commitment to mutual respect and inter-agency partnership.
The FCID leadership team accompanied the AIG, signalling a united front as both agencies pledged closer cooperation in the administration of criminal justice and illegal migration management in Lagos State.
