Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected notorious armed robbers who allegedly specialise in attacking churches and carting away musical instruments and other valuables.
The arrests followed several complaints from residents over a spate of church break-ins across the state. Acting on these reports, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify intelligence-led investigations and ensure the culprits were apprehended.
On 16th September 2025, the Command received a distress call about an imminent armed attack on Dominican City Church, located along Polytechnic Road by Sticals Hotel. Swiftly responding, a patrol team from Ogwashi-Uku Division, led by the DPO, CSP Israel Okomoyon, and supported by local vigilantes, intercepted a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna Space Van with registration number EFR-150-XB.
The two occupants of the vehicle, later identified as Emmanuel Emiowor (21) of PTI Road, Warri, and Noah Philip (20) of PTI Road, Warri, were arrested. A search of the vehicle yielded dangerous weapons and tools used in their operations, including: One (1) Pump Action Gun, Three (3) Single Barrel Locally Made Guns, One (1) Locally Fabricated Revolver Gun, One (1) Live Cartridge and One (1) Iron Rod (used for breaking church doors)
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a syndicate specialising in attacking churches. Some of the stolen items have already been recovered. Both suspects remain in police custody while discreet investigations continue.
Reiterating the Command’s commitment to fighting crime, CP Abaniwonda vowed that Delta State will never be allowed to serve as a safe haven for criminals. He urged residents to continue supporting security efforts by reporting suspicious activities promptly through the Command’s dedicated emergency line: 08036684974, or by visiting the nearest police station.
