The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has condemned the attack by yet-to-be identified gunmen on Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy, Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone yesterday.
Similarly, the Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET), a platform for Citizens and Non-State Actors stakeholders, also joined its voice to that of the governor, to condemn the attack.
Ubah narrowly escaped the bullets of some gun-wielding men who attacked his convoy at Enugwu-Ukwu Road in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State
Soludo said: “Government is fully determined to wipe out every act of criminality in the State. This is the last ditched effort of a sinking boat by these criminal elements. All security agencies are now on full alert to fish out the perpetrators of this heinous attack, who will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
The Governor commiserated with Ubah and the families of his aides who lost their lives as well as the State Commissioner of Police, for the Policemen who also lost their lives
ACSONET, who noted that the incident left many aides, and police personnel dead and others injured, called for further strengthening of security architecture in Anambra State.
The Chairman of the group, Prince Chris Azor also stated that the security architecture in the entire country was vital.
According to Azor, inasmuch as the State Government under Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo was doing its best to contain insecurity challenges of the State, the Federal Government has a statutory role to play in tackling the ugly situation.
His words: “The Federal Government has the primary responsibility to ensure security and welfare of citizens. It’s therefore, high time President Buhari woke up to his responsibility of assisting the State Government in curbing this obvious menace. Citizens are also urged to work as a collective in supporting the government’s efforts to ensure the security and safety of lives and property. We must take back our heritage as a people by forming a web of defense to protect our neighbourhoods. Patriotic Citizens should see something, and not only say something but do something.”
Azor implored security agencies to endeavour to fish out the perpetrators of the cowardly act and make them face the full wrath of the law. He appealed to the government to come to the aid of the families of those killed in the attack.
