Kidnap gang busted after abducting nine victims, including women, children

The Zamfara State Police Command has announced the arrest of a gang member of the notorious bandit kingpin, Halilu Kachalla, who has been on the Police Wanted List for a long time.

The 30 years old suspect, Mohammed Aminu, was said to have been arrested on 1st January 2023 at about 1:30 PM.

The State Police image maker, Mohammed Shehu said that Police Tactical operatives while on Confidence building patrol and Stop and Search arrested Aminu, who is a gang member of the notorious bandit, Halilu Kachalla.

Shehu said: “The suspect while undergoing discreet investigation confessed to being a gang member of bandit kingpin Halilu Kachalla who operates in many parts of Zamfara states and other neighbouring states. The suspect further confessed to participating in several kidnappings and cattle rustling where millions of Naira were paid by victims’ relations as ransom.”

Similarly, Shehu said that the command arrested another bandit, identified as 25 years old Abu Umaru, and recovered one operational motorcycle and a sharp knife as exhibits.

“On 2nd January 2023 at about 12:15 PM, Police Tactical Operatives deployed along Gusau – Tsafe Road on rigorous patrol arrested Abu Umaru on a motorcycle coming out of the forest. In the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to belonging to a gang of bandits operating in Mada, Wonaka, Yandoto, and Tsafe under their gang Commander Malam Tukur. He also confessed that several times, they blocked Gusau – Tsafe – Yankara Road and abducted an unspecified number of people, and took them to their enclave in which their relations paid ransom before their release. The recent abduction they carried out was on 1st January 2023 at about 7:PM, where they blocked two vehicles along Gusau – Tsafe highway by Yandoto village and kidnapped nine persons including three women and two children,” said Shehu.
