The Lagos State Police Command, through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), has partnered with the Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to commemorate the 2026 Children’s Day celebration with a sensitisation programme aimed at promoting positive values among young people.
The event, themed “Your Future Is Not for Sale; Say No to Violence, Cultism and Drug Abuse,” was held at Iganmu Senior Secondary School, Lagos. It attracted students from various public and private secondary schools across the Orile and Iganmu axis, as well as educators, community leaders, stakeholders, and other dignitaries committed to youth development and crime prevention.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, the Divisional Police Officer of Orile Division, CSP Ogunleti Phillips, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to preventive policing through advocacy, mentorship, enlightenment, and sustained engagement with young people.
According to him, the police remain dedicated to steering youths away from crime and helping them build productive futures through continuous awareness programmes.
The Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, commended the initiative and emphasised the importance of collaboration among government institutions, traditional leaders, communities, and security agencies in instilling positive values in young people.
“We must continue to work together to guide our youths and provide them with the right environment to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Chief Hakeem Oladipupo Ojora, Bashorun of Ojora-Apapa Kingdom, who represented His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulfatai Aromire, the Ojora of Ijora and Apapa Kingdom, urged students to remain disciplined, focused, and law-abiding as they pursue their future aspirations.
During the sensitisation session, the Lagos State Coordinator of POCACOV, SP Olivia Amarachi Ugochukwu, warned students against cultism, drug abuse, violence, fraud, and other social vices capable of jeopardising their future.
“Your future is valuable and should not be traded for temporary gains. Shun negative influences, embrace discipline, hard work, and associate with people who will encourage you to achieve your goals,” she advised.
The programme concluded with participating students taking a pledge to become responsible and exemplary citizens committed to making positive choices for a better society.
