The Nigeria Police Force has moved to reinforce the Police Complaints Response Unit (CRU), reaffirming its dedication to institutional accountability and the elimination of unprofessionalism within its ranks.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, announced the strategic strengthening of the unit during an Emergency Conference with Commissioners of Police and media representatives at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre in Abuja.
Addressing the assembly, IGP Disu confirmed that the CRU is now fully operational 24 hours a day, providing a constant, direct channel for citizens to report grievances. The platform is specifically designed to handle cases involving extortion, abuse of office, human rights violations, and other unethical behaviours by police personnel. The Inspector-General emphasised that these reforms are central to his vision of a more transparent and people-centred police institution, noting that legitimate complaints will be met with swift and decisive action.
The IGP urged the Nigerian public to utilise these reporting channels responsibly, highlighting that active civic cooperation is vital for the Force’s ongoing reform process. He assured the populace that all reports submitted via the CRU are handled with strict confidentiality.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, echoed these sentiments in a formal statement issued from the Force Headquarters. He maintained that the Nigeria Police Force remains determined to uphold the rule of law and will continue to implement rigorous disciplinary measures against any erring officers found culpable following thorough investigations.
The move is seen as a critical step in rebuilding institutional integrity and strengthening public confidence across the nation.
