The Delta State Police Command has arrested 23 suspects and seized large quantities of suspected illicit drugs during coordinated operations across the state, in what authorities described as a major push against criminal activities and drug-related offences.
The operations also led to the recovery of a stolen HOWO trailer truck allegedly snatched by suspected criminals.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, operatives carried out multiple operations targeting identified criminal hideouts and suspicious locations.
The statement said police operatives acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, conducted a raid on identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and brothels in the Okpanam axis and Asaba metropolis on May 22, 2026.
The operation was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, alongside personnel from the Department of Operations, Buffalo Team, and Okpanam patrol teams.
Police said the raid focused on areas around Hausa Market in Okpanam, resulting in the arrest of 22 male suspects.
Items recovered during the operation included 72 bottles of CSC Codeine, 11 packets of Tramadol, quantities of Swinol, Canadian Loud, and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
“The suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the Special Enquiry Unit (SEU) for profiling and further investigation,” the statement said.
Police added that suspects found culpable would be prosecuted.
In a separate operation, operatives attached to Operation Safe Delta reportedly recovered a stolen HOWO trailer truck following a petition alleging vehicle snatching, conspiracy, and theft.
The police said investigators tracked the truck with registration number KK/192 XA to Ifite-Awka in Anambra State.
“The vehicle has been recovered and towed to Asaba, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) in Warri intercepted a tricycle during a stop-and-search exercise along Esisi Road on May 22.
Police said a search of the vehicle uncovered 13 nylon bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
A 57-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the seizure.
“Investigation is ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the drugs,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible information.
He assured residents that “all suspects found culpable will be brought to justice.”
