…Commits to Gender Inclusivity, Transparency, and Federal Character Compliance
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced plans to recruit 50,000 new officers into the Nigeria Police Force, following a high-level stakeholders meeting held at its headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, brought together representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Federal Character Commission. Discussions centred on ensuring that the recruitment exercise is seamless, transparent, and credible, while upholding the principles of fairness, equity, and merit.
In his opening remarks, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), represented by DIG (Dr) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), fdc, emphasised the Commission’s commitment to an open and inclusive process.
He noted that the recruitment drive is designed to strengthen the capacity and diversity of the Nigeria Police Force. DIG Lakanu also serves as a Board Member and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, who led the Ministry’s delegation, expressed optimism about the exercise and pledged full collaboration with the PSC.
Resolutions reached at the meeting include strict adherence to the Federal Character principles as enshrined in the Constitution to ensure equitable representation across all states and geopolitical zones.
There was also a strong emphasis on gender inclusivity, with deliberate measures to encourage and facilitate the recruitment of qualified female candidates. In addition, the Commission assured that the process will be transparent, technology-driven, publicly accessible, and free from undue interference.
The agencies agreed to work in synergy to uphold the integrity of the exercise, promote national unity, and deliver a recruitment process that meets the expectations of Nigerians.
The PSC assured prospective applicants and the general public that the recruitment would be conducted with the highest level of accountability and in compliance with extant laws and guidelines. Further details and timelines for the exercise will be communicated in due course.
