President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, citing his decades of distinguished service to Nigeria’s national security architecture.
The appointment was disclosed in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni.
The presidency said the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, enhancing intelligence-driven operations, and deepening inter-agency collaboration in tackling emerging security threats across the country.
Famadewa, a highly decorated retired general, brings over three decades of military and intelligence experience spanning national security strategy, counter-terrorism operations, intelligence fusion, and international security diplomacy.
Between 2015 and 2021, he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), where he played a key role in shaping Nigeria’s modern intelligence coordination framework. He is credited with establishing the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC) at ONSA — an integrated multi-agency platform that brought together the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces to strengthen national threat assessment and strategic response.
Following his retirement from active service, Famadewa served as Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, contributing strategic thought leadership on policing, civil-security cooperation, and national security reform. He is the author of Policing and National Security in Nigeria, a monograph offering practical frameworks for civil-security collaboration.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the appointment would advance efforts toward a safer Nigeria through improved homeland security coordination, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management. He urged the new appointee to bring his expertise and professionalism to bear in supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
