The Edo State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in the investigation of a kidnapping incident that occurred at the Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City on June 14, 2026, leading to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of weapons, cash, and vehicles linked to the crime.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eno Ikedem, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Benin City.
According to the statement, the operation followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika. It was carried out by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on the basis of credible intelligence.
“On June 18, 2026, operatives of the Intelligence Response Team launched a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of one Marvellous Isaac, 32, during a gun duel, while another suspect identified simply as Precious was neutralised in the process,” Ikedem stated.
She said items recovered from the suspects included a red Lexus RX 350 SUV with registration number EKP 848 AE, allegedly used in the kidnapping operation, a pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, a cash sum of N2.05 million, and a motorcycle.
The police spokesperson further revealed that additional members of the criminal syndicate were arrested on June 20 during follow-up operations in Benin City and parts of Delta State.
“Further investigations led to the arrest of Gift Raphael, 27, who subsequently led operatives to Wisdom Michael and Rufus Michael during separate operations. All suspects have made confessional statements linking them to the Vegetable Market kidnapping incident and other criminal activities within the state,” she said.
Commending the operatives for their efforts, the Commissioner of Police praised their professionalism, courage, promptness, and dedication in dismantling the criminal network.
“CP Monday Agbonika has assured residents of Edo State that the Command remains committed to ensuring that all criminal elements are tracked down and brought to justice,” Ikedem said.
The Command also urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information while remaining vigilant and security conscious.
Residents were encouraged to contact the Command’s emergency lines, 08077773721 and 08037646272, or report complaints through the Public Complaints Bureau on 08150999335 and the Complaints Response Unit on 08100389992. #Securitynewsalert.com
