The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has concluded a series of high-level strategic visits to sister security agencies, advocating for a transition toward deeply integrated, intelligence-led policing.
The CP’s diplomatic circuit, which spanned several days, included consultative meetings with the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
During his engagement with the Director of the DSS on April 20, 2026, CP Oyeniyi underscored that modern law enforcement is ineffective without a robust data exchange. “Effective security management is anchored on timely and actionable intelligence,” the CP stated. “Inter-agency partnership remains indispensable and cannot be taken for granted.”
Addressing the specific threats of cultism, kidnapping, and communal clashes, particularly in the lead-up to forthcoming elections, the Commissioner emphasised that he would lean heavily on the “institutional knowledge” of veteran officers across the various services.
Responding to the CP’s call for unity, the Director of the DSS reaffirmed that “intelligence gathering is a collective responsibility that cannot be undertaken in isolation,” noting that collaboration is now the central pillar of state security.
The momentum continued through Wednesday, April 22, as the CP met with the State Comptroller of Immigration, G.C. Ozodinobi, and the State Controller of the Correctional Service, CC Chuke Chike Idoko. Both leaders echoed the CP’s sentiments, with Comptroller Ozodinobi remarking that no single agency possesses the capacity to independently dismantle contemporary criminal networks.
Turning his attention to the protection of national infrastructure and highway safety, CP Oyeniyi also visited the NSCDC and FRSC. While meeting with NSCDC State Commandant Chinedu Fabian Igbo, the CP praised the ongoing joint efforts to protect critical assets. At the FRSC Sector 5.2 Command, he told Sector Commander Charles Eyo Edem that “synergy remains the cornerstone of effective operations,” adding that “no single agency can achieve optimal results in isolation.”
The series of visits, characterised by mutual professional respect, signals a unified front among Delta State’s security apparatus.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, these engagements are part of a broader strategy by CP Oyeniyi to foster a “unity of purpose” and ensure a collective commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents.
