In a proactive move to safeguard financial institutions ahead of the busy yuletide season, the Delta State Police Command convened a strategic security meeting with the Bankers’ Forum on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
The meeting, initiated by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, was aimed at preemptively addressing the potential rise in criminal activities often associated with the ’ember’ months. The session was attended by the Chief Security Officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Asaba, Mrs Evangeline Patrick, and thirty-nine heads of various banks across the state.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stressed the importance of vigilance. He noted that with Delta State’s strategic location, it is crucial to review and enhance existing security measures.
“Bankers need to take adequate security measures to checkmate the activities of criminals who may want to take advantage of the festive period,” DCP Adejobi advised. He specifically urged all banks to install advanced and fully functional CCTV cameras in and around their premises to support the monitoring efforts of the police.
Commending the Command for the initiative, Mrs. Evangeline Patrick of the CBN highlighted their strict security protocols, stating that they do not release cash to banks that are not accompanied by an adequate number of police officers for specie escort.
DCP Adejobi concluded by reiterating the Command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime and ensuring a peaceful holiday season for residents, promising that the meeting was just the “tip of the iceberg” in the proactive measures being deployed.
