The Delta State Police Command has raised an alarm over a disturbing trend involving suspected criminals who sell stolen vehicles to unsuspecting or indifferent buyers without any form of documentation.
Spokesperson for the Command, Superintendent of Police Bright Edafe, disclosed that many of these transactions are carried out brazenly, with buyers failing to demand proof of ownership.
“How do you buy a car without a single document?” Edafe asked rhetorically. “The vehicle in question was stolen from its rightful owner in 2023 after the victim was shot three times. Now, what becomes of the buyer, especially when he cannot identify the person he claimed sold it to him? And why does the licensing office register vehicles that have been previously registered without asking questions?”
The police are calling for heightened vigilance among members of the public and stricter enforcement by licensing authorities to curb the growing menace.
