In line with the community policing vision of the Nigeria Police Force, a Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Ifo Police Division, in Ogun State, on Tuesday, took time to explain how communities could effectively partner with the police to checkmate criminalities from all fronts at their various communities.
The DPO, Mr Olabisi Kamonidee, during the PCRC week lecture held at Alameda Hall in Ifo, Ogun state, appealed to community leaders, Baalsand, on community development. Associations to continue.
Partner with the police as the frontline in never never-ending anti-crime war all over Ogun and other states in Nigeria. Kamonideen, a superintendent of police, begged the stakeholders in various communities to hire vigilantes to guide their transformers, homes, religious bodies, residents and other vital and critical infrastructures in their communities.
His words: “Community leaders should encourage their residents to contribute at least N1000 every month to pay vigilantes and other paramilitary outfits to ensure their safety and properties, instead of allowing criminals to steal their valuables. In addition to the hiring of vigilantes, the DPO further explained that solar-powered lights should also be installed at strategic points and locations so as to monitor the movement of people and vehicles entering and leaving the communities, especially at night.
Also, strange people and vehicles entering or leaving the communities should be checked, and their information documented. On the crime trends in Ifo and its environs, SP Kamonideen said that his division is working around the clock in partnership with market leaders, tricycle operators, commercial bus owners and operators, sister government agencies and the paramilitary outfits to tackle cultism, ritual killings, prostitution, and other forms of criminalities in Ifo.
