Ogun Police, Partners Provide Free Medical Outreach to Mark World Malaria Day

-

The Ogun State Police Command has partnered with The Life Projects and other corporate organisations to provide free medical services to officers and residents in Abeokuta, as part of activities marking the 2026 World Malaria Day.

The outreach, held on April 24 at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ibara, Abeokuta, offered a range of healthcare services, including malaria testing, treatment, and health education.

Organisers said the initiative, themed “Driven to end malaria; Now we can. Now we must,” was aimed at improving access to basic healthcare for police personnel, their families, and civilian staff.

Beneficiaries received free medical consultations, malaria parasite tests, as well as Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets and anti-malarial drugs. Health experts also conducted awareness sessions on environmental hygiene and preventive measures to reduce the spread of malaria within police barracks and neighbouring communities.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, said the programme reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the well-being of its personnel.

“A healthy workforce is fundamental to maintaining public safety and effective policing,” Ojajuni said, noting that the initiative aligns with the Force’s “Health is Wealth” mantra.

He commended The Life Projects and its partners for what he described as their “selfless contribution” to the health and well-being of officers in the command.

The medical outreach formed part of broader efforts by stakeholders to combat malaria, a leading public health challenge in Nigeria, particularly among vulnerable populations.
