US Partners with Nigeria Police to Combat Crypto-Crime in Lagos Training Initiative

-

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, has successfully concluded an intensive specialised training program focused on cryptocurrency tracing and blockchain analysis.

The workshop, which took place on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, represents a significant collaboration between the Nigerian Police Force and the United States government. Facilitated through the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, the initiative brought together experts from the United States Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) – Regional Security Office and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to share advanced investigative techniques with local detectives.

Under the leadership of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, a cohort of officers drawn from various specialized sections of the FCID Annex participated in the hands-on sessions.

The training was hosted at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) Lagos Annex, where participants were immersed in the complexities of navigating the blockchain to track illicit transactions and investigate crypto-enabled offences.

Speaking on behalf of AIG Akpanudom, the Officer-in-Charge of the NPF-NCCC Annex, SP Smart Abubakar, expressed deep appreciation for the international partnership. He noted that the evolving nature of cyber threats requires a workforce that is not only vigilant but equipped with world-class technical capabilities. He further emphasised that such collaborations are vital to the Force’s mission of maintaining law and order in an increasingly digital economy.

The training concludes a series of efforts by the FCID Annex to modernise its investigative approach. By leveraging the expertise of the U.S. Consulate’s seven-member facilitation team, the Department aims to significantly improve its operational readiness and success rate in prosecuting sophisticated cyber-enabled crimes.

This latest initiative serves as a clear signal of the FCID Annex’s commitment to staying ahead of criminal elements who utilise emerging technologies to evade traditional law enforcement methods. #Securitynewsalert.com
