The Delta State Police Command has restated its commitment to enforcing the ban on fireworks, “knockouts,” and other pyrotechnics during the festive season.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, emphasised that the prohibition remains in force and will be strictly implemented. The directive covers the use, sale, and public display of fireworks, firecrackers, popularly known as knockouts and bangers.
Police authorities explained that the measure is aimed at curbing crime, noting that criminal elements often exploit the noise and confusion caused by fireworks to perpetrate unlawful acts. Parents and guardians have been urged to caution their children and wards against using fireworks, while retailers are warned to refrain from selling pyrotechnics. Offenders will face arrest, prosecution, and confiscation of their goods.
The Commissioner of Police has directed DCP Operations, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, alongside Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders, to ensure strict compliance across the state. Residents are encouraged to report any incidents of fireworks use or sale to the nearest police station or through the command’s control room numbers: 08036684974, 08114895600, and 08025666914.
The Command expressed appreciation to Deltans for their cooperation and urged continued support to maintain peace during the Yuletide. In his message, CP Abaniwonda wished all residents a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.
